Historical Footage of Israel

This collection traces one of the more turbulent chapters in the recent history of Israel and the Palestinian territories, filmed on the ground and from the air by our own camera crews rather than sourced from a wire agency or archive reseller. It opens with ground footage from Gaza shot between 1980 and 2002 — daily life, clashes and the built environment of the era — continues through a 2003 light-aircraft aerial survey of Gaza City, the coastline and the settlements later evacuated, and covers the 2nd Palestinian Intifada (2000–2005) on the ground in Israel and the West Bank. It closes with our coverage of Operation Gaza Pullout in August 2005, when Israeli security forces removed the last settlers from Gush Katif — filmed as it happened, not reconstructed after the fact.

Because Highlight Films has operated continuously in Israel and Gaza since 1998, this material was shot by crews who were already on the ground for other assignments rather than sent in specifically to cover history — part of why the collection holds footage a production researching this period elsewhere may not find.
